We
are building a floating architecture that evolves like a living
organism: fluid, pre-broken, reconfigurable, sustainable, pluggable,
organic and instinctive. Open_Sailing aims to design an
attractive technological lifestyle to overcome any possible natural or
man-made disaster, stimulating people’s ingenuity and sense of
solidarity. We need to collectively invent and spread realistic,
bootstrapping DIY-technologies for the forthcoming challenges, not only
to survive but to re-invent how we inhabit the blue planet.
We already have an International Space Station, we need an
International_Ocean_Station; there is so much to discover in our
oceans. This first prototype was designed in the "Center for the Study
and Practice of Survival Technics" in the submarine base of Lorient,
France; constructed in Area10 art centre, South London; shipped across
the North Sea, to be presented at the ARS Electronica festival in Linz
Austria as the 'next great idea'. On 9 September we set sail, drifting
down the Danube River into the Black Sea. Many architectural,
computational, social, biological and culinary experiments will be
carried out on the journey, developing ideas, software and hardware
designs for the future International_Ocean_Station. Join the journey!
